Deck the LOLs – ThinkKit prompt #3

Today’s ThinkKit prompt was to write about something incredibly funny that happened in the last year. Well, to be honest I wasn’t able to think of any one thing that deserved this place of honor on the blog. But I could think of a person: my boyfriend.

As I mentioned yesterday, my boyfriend moved in with me a few months ago. And let me tell you, I have laughed so much more in the last few months than I normally would. I don’t know what it is about this man, but he can crack me up like no-one else can. I’m talking about gasping for breath, almost peeing my pants, needing to step away for a moment kind of laughter. I laugh with him, the way I used to laugh when I was a kid. It’s really something.

The worst thing about it is: his jokes are really terrible! Like, really bad. Puns and jokes that would make the most accustomed teller of “dad jokes” cringe. And he says them with this near-deadpan expression where he tries to look deadpan but he’s failing because his eyes are laughing (usually at how I’m laughing) and that just makes me laugh even more. I don’t want to laugh like a woman possessed over these bad, bad jokes but he’s got some kind of power over me. He knows just what to say or how to look at me to send me off again when I’ve started calming down. It’s awful.

And of course it’s absolutely wonderful. The other day, he came into the room with one of the rubber gloves he uses for painting to his mouth… and blew into it. It really wasn’t funny. And yet here I am, giggling at the memory of those rubber fingers pointing at me.

ThinkKit is a blog project, with daily prompts in December. Friends who are also doing this are Zee Southcombe and Amanda Staley.
